Parlar d’amore oggi suona strano
Mentre aleggiano cupi pensieri
Di tristi presagi messaggeri.
Stracci di massacri alla deriva
Nel cuore dell'Europa martoriata,
come fuscelli siam abbandonati.
Venti di guerra, suonano tamburi…
Proclami su stanchi corpi armati
Al flusso del dolore soli lasciati.
Travolti da eventi inaspettati,
Per San Valentino almeno
Rinnovato dì noi vagheggiamo.
Per farmi consolar sin dal mattino
Osservo il tuo amato volto
Giungere a me da memorie antiche.
Approdato su queste stanche sponde.
T’accarezzo le rughe sulla fronte.
T’amo ancora e forse più di prima.

The rags of slaughter drift on Europe's breath,
Her battered heart still beating through the pain;
Like broken reeds we sway before cold death,
Abandoned children of a ruthless rain.
War's restless wind beats drums of iron doom,
On weary flesh proclamations are cast;
We drown in sorrow's ever-rising gloom,
And ride the surge of anguish unsurpassed.
Yet we pretend Saint Valentine returns,
And paints the dawn with fragile shades of gold;
A gentle pause where wounded spirit yearns
For tender hands the shattered world can hold.
I gaze upon thy face, beloved soul,
Drawn from the deep of memory’s endless sea;
Thou reachest me where ancient longings roll,
And land upon my tired shores with me.
I trace the lines that time upon thee drew,
And bless each scar that sorrow dared to give;
I love thee still… yea, more than once I knew,
